THE FARMERS

Jessica Wong- Operator/Manager/Farmer Jess has been farming with the Holbrook family since 2012. After graduating Skidmore College with a degree in Anthropology and East Asian Studies, she started her career at a small marketing agency. While short lived, her one year office job led her to pursue a different career path. One that didn't involve sitting in an office all day. With no farming or gardening experience, Jess began by volunteering at her local farm in Wilton, CT. It wasn't long until she found her way to Holbrook Farm where she started out as a novice volunteer. With a natural curiosity and tenacity, she quickly became an apprentice under John Holbrook, who at the time had no idea what he was in for. Farming was a natural fit. She made her way from volunteer, to manager, to now sole operator in just a few short years. As a young woman, Jess has the passion and desire to continue to grow Holbrook Farm and foster its important relationship to the community.

John and Lynn Holbrook- Owner/Newly Retired John and Lynn Holbrook are quintessentially America's sweetheart couple. John, a Brown graduate and Lynn, a graduate of the University of Mississippi met while both working for Proctor & Gamble in the early 60's. After years of dedication, both decided to move to Connecticut and start their own business. For years, Lynn was a beloved French teacher and John owned and operated several of his own businesses ranging from marketing to a needleworks shop in Danbury. They've lived here in Bethel for over forty years and after years of hard work, John began to pursue his passion for farming and gardening. He loved farming so much, it became their early retirement career. While the property has been farmed since they moved here, it was only a little over 15 years ago that the Holbrook Farm and Market as we know and love came to be. John understood that being organic and ecologically responsible was the right way to farm and is truly a pioneer in the local organic food movement. Through the years, he has mastered the art of intensive farming, producing on 2 acres what most would produce on 20 acres or more! Lynn was in charge of the market and bakery. Her wit and Southern charm were enough to make lifelong relationships with customers. Her pies and cookies were a bonus! They both are not only incredibly intelligent, hard working, and loving, they are also pillars of strength in our community. They are the best role models. They are simply…the best. This year they have decided to aid a young passionate farmer achieve her dreams by giving her the opportunity to run the farm while they try to truly retire.
